Appearances}} Early life and careerLiz MacRae Shaw was born in Surrey, to a Scottish mother and an English father. She studied history at Somerville College and subsequently worked as a history lecturer in further education. In 1980 she (Elizabeth Shaw) appeared on Mastermind, reaching the semi-final stage with specialist subjects, ‘The life of Elizabeth1’ and ‘The Life of the Duke of Wellington’[1][2] before coming second to Fred Housego, the London taxi driver and ultimate winner. She is an active member of the Mastermind Club[3]. Shaw later embarked on a second career as a psychotherapist. Since 2008 she has lived on the Isle of Skye[4].
