释义

Llorenç Roviras Guarch (Sabadell, 1940–2009) learned to paint at a very young age, before his teenage years, with [https://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romà_Vallès_i_Simplicio Romà Vallès]. He spent many years studying pictorial technique, until 1959, and took even longer to present his work to the public. In 1968 he became a member of the [https://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acadèmia_de_Belles_Arts_de_Sabadell Academy of Fine Arts in Sabadell] and in 1970 he held his first individual exhibition. He remained a member of the Academy for the rest of his life and in his final years he became its Artistic Director.

In the same year as his debut, Llorenç Roviras won first prize in the Sabadell Youth Chamber’s National Christmas Contest. He favoured the use of wax crayons on paper or on slate for his entire life, even after 1985, the year in which he shifted from figurative to abstract painting.

The 1990s, when he was fully committed to abstract works, was his most active decade. He held individual exhibitions at the following galleries: Inge Maltus, Ignasi Boixareu and Nova 3 (Sabadell); Oficina Difusió Artística and [https://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centre_Cultural_Terrassa Centre Cultural de la Caixa de Terrassa] (Terrassa); Sant Jordi (Matadepera); Centre Cultural i de Congressos Lauredià (Sant Julià de Lòria); Rosa's Art (Palma, Mallorca); and Montserrat (New York). He also participated in group exhibitions at: Inge Maltus, Nova 3 and [https://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alliance_Française_de_Sabadell Alliançe Française] (Sabadell); Trànsit and Capital Art (Barcelona); and Brondo (Palma, Mallorca).

Llorenç Roviras’ work during this period was characterised by energetic strokes and experimental endeavours that led him to practise techniques such as dripping and solutions as well as using sand and different supports, including cardboard and wood. In 2007, having suffered a stroke which limited his mobility considerably, he turned to painting again, adapting his work to his new situation by working with his fingers on paper.

Sabadell Art Museum houses around 40 of his works and other pieces are included in the private collections of Banc Sabadell[1], BBVA, Sabadell Grup Assegurador, Weichmuller (Germany) and Ballast Nedam (Holland).

In late 2018 and early 2019 the Friends of the Arts and Musical Youth of Terrassa held an exhibition featuring a retrospective anthology of his work[2].
