Loretta Jankowski (born 1950) is an American music teacher and composer of contemporary classical music. She is also a noted pedagogue,{{peacock-inline}} having filled faculty positions at a number of prominent American Universities and having received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Piano Teachers Society of America.[1] Her music is published by the American Composers Alliance.[2] BiographyJankowski grew up in New Jersey. In the 1960s, she studied composition and theory in the Preparatory Division of the Juilliard School of Music. She received a M.Mus. Degree in Composition from the University of Michigan{{when}}, and a Ph.D. in Composition from The Eastman School of Music.{{when}} She supplemented this with work at Dartington, England with Harrison Birtwistle and Morton Feldman, and with three months in Cracow, Poland with Marek Stachowski.{{when}} In August 1987, she was Composer-in-Residence at Bennington College in Vermont.[2] Earning her living mostly as a teacher,[4] Jankowski has taught on the faculties of Northern Illinois University at Dekalb,{{when}} California State University Long Beach, Ball State University at Muncie, Indiana, and East Carolina University at Greenville, North Carolina.{{when}} From 1981–1983, she was Adjunct Professor of Composition at Kean University, resuming that post in 1986. In August, 1987, she was Composer-in-Residence at Bennington College in Vermont.
