An election for mayor of Louisville, Kentucky was held on November 6, 2018, concurrent with other elections, including half of the 26-member Louisville Metro Council.

Declarations

On March 25, 2017, incumbent Mayor Greg Fischer announced that he would be running for reelection for a third term in office.

On October 3, 2017, Louisville Metro Councilwoman Angela Leet announced her bid for the Republican nomination for Mayor of Louisville. She faced 2014 Republican nominee Bob DeVore in the primary.

Campaign

Mayor Greg Fischer campaigned on the increased availability of jobs within Louisville, a decrease in the violent crime rate, decreasing poverty levels and the introduction of new businesses to Louisville, including Google Fiber.[1]

Councilwoman Angela Leet campaigned on promises to improve the city's infrastructure, decrease the city's high crime rates, and work with the state government to protect the city's public education system.[2]

Mayor Greg Fischer easily defeated the four other Democratic candidates in the field. The second place candidate, Ryan Fenwick, ran to Fischer's left.[3]

Greg Fischer, the incumbent Democratic mayor of Louisville, defeated Angela Leet, the Republican nominee.

Concurrently, the Democratic Party secured a supermajority in the Metro Council elections, paving the way for more liberal policies in the next government.
