Lucy Hale (born 1994, London) is a British composer of contemporary classical music. She currently lives and works in Manchester.

She has been Young Composer in Association with BSO Resound (2017/18) as part of the Change Makers project.[1][2]

In 2017 Lucy was commissioned by Drake Music in partnership with the London Philharmonic Orchestra's Foyle Future Firsts scheme.[3] The resulting work, In The Wind, was premiered at The Institute for Contemporary Arts, London in March 2017.

Lucy was assistant composer for a new scoring of the 1928 silent film Lonesome, which was performed as part of HOME's inaugural celebrations in 2015.[4] Lucy collaborated with writer Andrew Owen Cook for the Manchester Songbook project in May 2018. She was commissioned for the Lasham Music Festival in 2018.[5]

Education

Lucy attended the Royal College of Music Junior Department between 2010 and 2013. Lucy also attended the Sound and Music Summer School in 2011. She held a Hampshire Music Award for exceptional ability from 2011 to 2013. One of Lucy’s earliest works was performed at The Glazier’s Hall by members of the National Youth Orchestra.

She attained a Bachelor of Music with Honours degree from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2017.

In 2012 Lucy was awarded the John Wills Prize at the Royal College of Music.

  • Led Into Their Dreams (orchestra, 2016). The title was taken from the poem ‘Night Music’ by Philip Larkin.
  • Interrupted (guitar quartet, 2015). Written for the 2015 Royal Northern College of Music Chamber Music Festival: Songs Without Words. Premiered in the RNCM Studio Theatre on the 4th of March 2015.
  • Against the Tide (orchestra, 2015). Premiered by the RNCM Brand New Orchestra, conducted by Jan Wiersche.
  • On a Winter's Night (vocal trio, 2015). Words by Hans Christian Andersen. Completed in March 2015. Recorded by Juice Vocal Ensemble.
  • Sustain and Snap (cello, 2013).
  • Space (tabla and fluid piano, 2011).
