Made In is a Swiss architecture office based in Geneva and Zurich, Switzerland. They achieved international recognition through their theoretical approach to architecture. The office was established in 2003 by François Charbonnet and Patrick Heiz. BiographyFrançois Charbonnet was born in Geneva in 1972. After graduating from ETH Zurich he collaborated with Herzog & de Meuron and OMA. Patrick Heiz was born in Nyon in 1973. After graduating from ETH Zurich he collaborated with Herzog & de Meuron. In 2003 they set up their own office Made in Sàrl, Geneva and in 2015 also in Zurich. In addition to their practice, they are frequent lecturers and have been visiting professors at the EPFL in Lausanne (2010-2011), the USI Accademia di Architettura, Mendrisio (2014-2015) and at the Kyoto Design Lab, Japan. In 2011 they were invited as visiting professors at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich and they hold a full professorship for design and architecture there since 2018.[1] They are currently the only swiss-french speaking architects teaching at the ETH. François Charbonnet is on the advisory board of the S AM – Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel since 2015.[2] PracticeIn their practice they tackle fundamental questions and socio-political discourses. They are willing to take risks and assume responsibility for their actions.[3] They have described their approach to architecture and competitions as follows: „Defense of architecture as a process and not as a product. Radical and committed proposals research. Questioning or interpretation of a given program. Critical manipulation of historical references, built or not. Integration of proven technical and construction solutions in non-domestic areas (industry, infrastructure, mechanics, naval air, etc.)“.[4] Selected Projects
