The Madrid Resolution is a data protection resolution that was signed at the 31st International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy on the 6th of November 2009 in Madrid. It was signed by the national data protection authorities of 50 countries.^[1]

The resolution identified six Basic Principles of data protection.^[2]

Purpose specification principle
Proportionality principle
Data quality principle
Openness principle
Accountability principle
