Mahabhagavata Purana is one of Upapurana also known as the Devi purana is a Sanskrit text that belongs to the shakta cult. Mahabhagavata purana conceives Kali as Parabrahman as well as shakti of Shiva. The text consists of two Skandha (sections) with 81 chapters. The chapters between 17 and 19 called Parvati-gita. It is more close Devi Gita in Devi-Bhagavata Purana. HistoryThe author of the Mahabhagavata Purana, most likely, lived in the eastern part of Bengal, adjacent to Kamarupa (Assam). According to the scripture this is composed by Veda Vyasa. It is said that even after writing the huge collection of voluminous scriptural texts unmatched anywhere in the world, Veda Vyasa did not find peace at heart. So he went to the serene environs of the upper-reaches of the Himalayas to meditate. There he heard a divine voice of Devi Bhagavati ordaining him to write the Mahabhagavata Purana.
