Maija Ruoslahti (born 08 August, 1939 in Porvoo) is a Finnish Interior Architect and Artist.

Maija studied at the Institute of Industrial Arts, now Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. During her studying years, she trained at Asko, Orno and with various prominent Finnish designers such as Lisa-Johansson Papé, Jussi Peippo and Olli Borg.

After graduating in 1962, she worked with various Architect's offices including Heikki Sirén, Kaija Sirén and Timo Penttilä before moving to work in California for a few years. in 1970, she moved back to Finland and founded her own Interior Architect office Maija Ruoslahti Oy^[1].

Starting early and already during her studying years in the late 1950s, Maija's work spans over six decades and includes numerous public & private spaces, exhibition, furniture, jewellery in addition to various product and construction material designs.^[2]

Examples of her public works could be seen in numerous banks, schools, the Helsinki-Vantaa airport and cultural spaces like the Helsinki City Theater^[3] As for her lines of furniture; they were mainly made for the export market or in small handmade series. She has numerous patents in Finland and the United states and was known for experimenting with different materials including wood, metal and plastic. In 1972, her furniture was included in the luxury liner Royal Viking Star that included “high-class Finnish furniture and textiles...and more than 400 original works of art from by Scandinavian artists”^[4] Of her most familiar works were the colorful Lacu and Mixi hangers series designed in 1979 for MK Tresmer Oy fig. (2) that were a part of Finnish Pop-culture and almost every households in Finland during the 1980s^[5].

As an artist, she held numerous solo and group exhibitions with her first held in 1957 at 18 years of age and her last exhibition to date was held in 2018 in Espoo, Finland. Today she resides in Karjaa and is mainly concentrated on painting.
