About

Maradonna Kebab are a 5 a side football team from the Saughton area in Edinburgh, Scotland. The club currently plays in the Sunday Evening Division of the Premier Fives Premiership at the World of Football Academy at the Corn Exchange finishing 1st in an invincible season during the 2018 journey.

The club was founded by David McKenzie and Callum Sutherland in 2018 after extensive talks with some of Edinburgh's most talented prospects. The team name comes from Sutherland's undying love for his South American idol Diego Maradona. The link between the word "Maradonna" and "Kebab" derives from the Turkish heritage of the doner kebab which is rich in Scotland's fast food restaurants.

The Kebabs' finished the 2018 season 8-0-0 after it was cut short due to many teams being annihilated from the Kebabs and therefore refusing to play, costing league owner and local legend Amo some amount of time and money. Inevitably, Amo concluded the season and the Kebabs' lifted the league trophy after storming to victory in their final game of the season against Victorious Secrets.

The Kebabs are currently top of the league having played 12 games. They have won 12 out of 12 games leaving them 9 points clear at the top, ahead of bitter rivals Expected Toulouse who subsequently "shat bricks" according to skipper Callum Sutherland. With a 142GD after 12 games, you'd think the season will prevail in the sense it did last season with league owner and of course local legend Amo bringing the season to a halt.

With the non existent bookies having the Kebabs as the favourites to win, it's no wonder they're an insane 1/500 to retain their league title this season.

Players

David McKenzie

What once was an exciting prospect, McKenzie's left foot is a celebrity around these areas. A dangerous player who taught the likes of Mesut Ozil to "find the gaps", far far away in the Zing Dojos of the Pentland Hills. After taking the Golden Boot in 2018, McKenzie has vowed to take it easy on his opponents and has allowed Alan Downie to take over goalscoring duties.

Kerr Rutherford

As the famous entrepreneur, philanthropist and all time great Mahatma Gandhi once said "Your team isn't complete unless you have a huddy".

A huddy in the form of a Number 8 in rugby that is. This man made mountain would go through his Granny to win the ball for his team mates, a truly essential trait when dealing with the extremely physical environment of the Sunday Evening league.

Alan Downie

It's not often you find a wannabe mod who is alternatively a very good football player. A fast, tricky, both footed winger such as "Aldo" is a hard player to find. Therefore Sutherland and McKenzie will take a lot of credit for bringing in the youngster on a permanent basis from Rascalton Athletic. Aldo is known to the other players in the league as a prominent diver, however the players at Maradonna Kebab would call it an expert judgment in drawing the foul from opponents, a skill in which they could only wish they possessed.

Anas Tahir

The Kebabs' newest recruit. Sutherland sealed the deal with Tahir as the bells struck 12 on New Year's Day costing the Kebabs £4m plus expenses. Tahir has a proven track record of coming in and "doing a job" as his old team TK Maxx Wanderers were promoted from Division 3 earlier this season.

Callum Sutherland

Captain. Leader. Legend.

A legend on the beaches of Rio, a legend in the stands of Easter Road.. but most importantly a legend in the Maradonna Kebab story book. This fine talent derived from greatness winning the Scottish Cup in his early days, before injury led this promising talent down to the managerial route. Since then he's went on to manage absolutely no one... but as the Maradonna Kebab fairytale turns into reality, he truly is becoming noticed on everyone's radar.

The desire to win truly shows in Sutherland's football, especially after scoring 121 goals in 12 games for the Kebabs this season already.

Craig Aitken

Once a fine man, now lost to the wilderness of love.

Scholesy, Sidders, Arshavin - whatever you may call this man, have no doubt that he will occasionally score an absolute belter. He'll miss squares, fall over the ball, back out of every 50/50 regardless of who he's tackling without a doubt. But this man scores belters all the time.

Kyle Fairgrieve

Fairo, the masterclass, the pinnacle of passing the modern day era. Some say he has a GPS located in both feet. Some say it was he who found the moon with a ball, not Neil Armstrong. Some even say he was employed as a Private Investigator to find missing persons purely with a ball at his feet.

This versatile player is an absolute servant to the club, the jack of all trades. An absolute must have in your starting V. Statues will be raised and stories will be told about this man.

Luke Mancini

King of the toby.

After signing for Wellington Phoenix, this man will leave the Kebabs on a 1 year deal and cross the seas to continue his fight down under.

A versatile player, a machine in goals and once scored a belter that is still spoken about to this day. The Kebabs will wear black armbands the day he leaves.

Ryan Slater

Defines huddy. Only played 3 games. Not much else to say really.

Sean Brennan

Our hero. Brennan represents everything McKenzie and Sutherland set out for when Maradonna Kebab was founded - hard work, perseverance, victory, humbleness.

This man throws himself in front of every ball, fires balls up the pitch when no one has asked himn to. But most importantly, he communicates. LOVEd by everyone, Sean truly understand the concepts of every player. After all, he's not even conceded more than 30 goals yet. Not as if he's a professional keeper for Berwick Rangers or anything, just a really good keeper somehow.

Steven Nicolson

From doing stepovers he doesn't mean to smashing the ball 90mph 10 yards out in the warm up, Steven truly is a one of a kind.

Known as "Nade" to the locals, Steven contests the real life Christian Nade in many aspects, especially his strength. Surprisingly, he's the only player that the fans have a chant about.

"NADE, NADE, NADE" they scream.

Calum Davidson

If he's not patching his pals for birds, he's dislocating his knee. A fine centre back, built like a huddy, plays like a huddy but is a very good player for the Kebabs.
