{{AFC submission|t||ts=20190105191358|u=Frank Neirynck|ns=118|demo=}}{{linkrot|date=January 2019}}{{one source|date=January 2019}} Marcus Cumberlege (Antibes, France, 23 December 1938- Bruges, Belgium, 30 December 2018) Born a son of Mike Cumberlege in Antibes, France, the English poet migrated at very young age to Chelsea and later to County Cork, Madrid, Peru, London, Paris and Connemara, before settling in Bruges, Belgium in 1972. He won a scholarship in English to Oxford where he studied at St. John's College. He married to Ava Nicole Paranjoti in 1965 (divorced in 1972) and Maria Lefever in 1973. Marcus Cumberlege wrote in lyrical stanzas, prose poetry, haiku,… In his later years his Shin Buddhist faith became more prevalent in his works. For nearly forty years he wrote in his adopted hometown Bruges, where he was a familiar figure working with other poets, artists, environmetalists and musicians. He also tried to encourage younger generations to read and write. In 1956 and 1957 he was the winner of the Sherborne School Poetry Prize and in 1967 he received the “Eric Gregory Award”, Britain’s national prize for poets under 30. Marcus Cumberlege died on 30th December 2018 in Bruges, a week after his 80th birthday.
