Biography

Marina Pugliese is an Italian art historian and a museum director. She is internationally known as a scholar specialized in the field of Contemporary Art Conservation. Currently she is Creative Director of the Future Humans Video Archive at the Berggruen Institute in Los Angeles[1] and teaches at the Visual Studies Department of the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.


She has been director of three museums in Milan (Museo del Novecento, Galleria d'Arte Moderna and Mudec Museo delle Culture), having founded two of them, Museo del Novecento[2][3] and Mudec. [4]

She served as member of the INCCA (International Network for the Conservation of Contemporary Art) Steering Committee.[5]

In July 2015, she moved to the SF Bay Area where she curated a program of Contemporary Art for the Italian Institute for Culture (mappingthecity.org). In 2017-2018 she co-curated the exhibition “Lucio Fontana.Ambienti/Environments, HangarBicocca, Milan.[6][7]

Recognition

In 1997, she was awarded a 2-year grant from the Accademia dei Lincei.[8] In 1999, she was awarded an international scholarship from the Université Paris I and Università di Pavia. In 2013, she was a scholar at the Getty Conservation Institute in Los Angeles.[9]
