Marina Shron is a Russian born, New-York based filmmaker, screenwriter and playwright. She was born and raised in St. Petersburg Russia, and has lived in New York since 1992. Marina Shron co-wrote the screenplay for Tony Pemberton's 2016 film Buddha's Little Finger, and wrote and directed the 2014 short film Sea Child, which premiered at the 2015 Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal. In 2019 Sea Child was selected for the 2nd Oline NYWIFT Film Festival with an Honorable Mention. Sea Child can be screened at GoInde TV, on the NYWIFT Film Festival Roku Channel [1] and on Fandor [2] She is currently working on her first feature film as a writer & director, The Fruit of Our Womb. Marina has received awards and funding for her work from Foundation for Contemporary Arts, New York Foundation for the Arts, Jerome Foundation, and Fulbright Foundation. Her screenplay, X-tina received the Rising Star Award in Screenwriting at the Canada International Film Festival. Marina's short film The Silent Love of the Fish aired on PBS in August 2003. The film received the Best Short Film Award at the Hamptons International Film Festival in 2002 and The Best Short Film Award at the Long Island Film Festival in 2001. Marina received an Accolade Award in 2011, and a Creative Spirit Award for Creativity/Originality in 2010. Marina teaches screenwriting at The New School in New York. In the past she has taught screenwriting at St. Lawrence University and Montclair State University. Marina has also guest-lectured and taught at New York University, SCAD, International Film School in Cologne, University of Rhode Island, and Ohio State University. She received an MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Marina wrote and directed her first short film in 2011, Lullaby for Ray. Lullaby for Ray screened at the Toronto and Cannes film festivals. Four of Marina's shorts, The Silent Love of the Fish, X-Tina, Lullaby for Ray and Sea Child have been archived by The Film-Maker's Cooperative in New York City.[3] Her plays including Time and the Beast, King of Rats, Christina, Mitya's Ordeal, Eden and To Love in Another Language have been produced at New York theatres such as Soho Rep, New Georges, Here, Playwrights Horizons, as well as in Berlin and Moscow. She has served as a Writer-in-Residence at MacDowell Colony, Yaddo and Ragdale Foundation. Marina is a recipient of James Thurber Fellowship in Playwriting (2002), Jerome Fellowship in Playwriting (1998-1999) and NYFA Fellowship in Playwriting (1996-1997). She co-authored (with Dennis Shasha) Red Blues: Voices from the Last Wave of Russian Immigrants (Holmes and Maier, 2002), and adapted the book for stage (American Place Theatre, 2002).
