Dean and Professor

School of Nursing, Duquesne University

Mary Ellen Glasgow joined the Duquesne University School of Nursing as a professor and Dean in 2012 with more than 30 years of academic nursing, research and practice behind her. Prior to joining Duquesne, she served at Drexel University as Associate Dean for Nursing, Undergraduate Health Professions, and Continuing Education and Chair of Undergraduate Programs.

Under her leadership, the Duquesne University School of Nursing has:

Experienced a 71 percent increase in undergraduate enrollment
Increased NCLEX-RN first-time pass rate 13% from 80.77 to 94.62%
Established a partnership with Pearson Embanet, an online program management (OPM) firm to expand online graduate student enrollment
Introduced a Nursing Honors Program
Designed and built a new School of Nursing Learning and Simulation Center
Created a Faculty Tuition Exchange with St. Louis University
development of the first dual undergraduate Biomedical Engineering and Nursing Program in the country
been named a National League for Nursing (NLN) Center of Excellence for three consecutive times.^[1]

Glasgow received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Gwynedd-Mercy University, Master of Science in nursing at Villanova University and PhD in nursing from Duquesne University.

Awards and Recognitions:

In addition to being named a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2013 and recently being honored as a recipient of the prestigious Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania in the Nursing Education-Academia category^[2], Glasgow has been recognized numerous times over the years.

She is an Academy of Nursing Education Fellow (ANEF) since 2015 for her outstanding and sustained contributions to the field of nursing education, and was part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellows Program, July 2009 - September 2012, a three-year advanced leadership program that allows participants to gain experiences, insights, competencies and skills necessary for executive leadership positions.

Most recently, she was selected as an up-and-coming community leader and joined the Leadership Pittsburgh XXXV Class. ^[3]

Glasgow has co-authored three books and has contributed chapters to six more.
