When Mat listened to a Djavan record, instantly surprised by the beauty of musical composition and arrangements, he decided to follow a career in music always seeking to play beautiful music that thrills listeners. He soon formed a band and started playing shows and recording in studio. He proceeded with his career at the Free Music University Tom Jobim (ULM) in São Paulo, where he studied Popular Music with masters Gabriel Bahlis, Sizao Machado, and Nene. While studying there, he worked as a recording assistant at the Gravodisc Studios. Mat M then followed his Italian origins and left Brazil bound to Rome. It was in Italy's capital and in Barcelona that he had his first opportunities to work with musicians from different cultures in Europe, which favored the expansion of his repertoire. His music genre is Brazilian Jazz Funk. His sound is sophisticated, fresh, eclectic, and rhythmically stressed - funky. His trademark is the intensity he plays both standard and fretless bass guitars, always in the High C tuning. Another one of his particularities is the frequent use of chords and high notes in his compositions. Some of his influences are Santana, Crusaders, Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, João Bosco, Djavan, Ivan Lins, Gonzaguinha, Sarah Vaughan, and Tom Jobim. He has produced and played with artists such as Zudizilla, Pok Sombra, Dirty Lion, Fill, Khaffu, Vagnotreta, Leo Carvalho, Lil Bonzai, Difunk, Longneck, Tchika Fernando e Xumo Nunjo. He has experience in major events, having already opened for Justin Bieber's international tour, and performed in big stages such as the Beira-Rio Stadium, Planeta Atlântida Festival and Oktoberfest. Mat M is currently working on the release of Under Pleasure, his first instrumental EP, entirely recorded and produced in London. Meanwhile, he is composing for his next record. References |
