Matt Farley (born June 3, 1978) is an American musician and a founding member of the alternative rock group Moes Haven. Farley, along with childhood friend Tom Scalzo, started the group in the mid-1990s. Together they’ve produced over twenty five albums. Farley also founded Projection From The Side, The Finklestinks, Farley & Greenspan and The Big Heist.

Farley also has an extensive career as a solo artist with over 70 different acts.^[1] In 2008 he began writing, recording and releasing songs about everything and anything. ^[2] Each act has a theme that it is named after and performs songs about. All of his music is relased under his own independent record label, Motern Media. As of 2019, he has released over 20,000 songs.^[3]

Aside from his music career, Farley has also made several movies with Tom Scalzo, Charles Roxburgh and an assortment of family and friends^[4]. Starting in 2017, Farley began hosting an annual five hour show/convention called Motern Extravaganza.^[5] The Motern Manly band plays on and off throughout the show and is attended by many actors from The Motern Films. Fans are invited to socialize, meet and hang out with Farley and the rest of the Motern cast. Farley has also been featured on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. ^[6]

Early musical career (1996–2004)

Farley’s earliest work came from a band called Projection From The Side formed in highschool with friends Doug “Frog” Brennan and Chris “Pete” Peterson.

The majority of their music was recorded on cassettes in the late 1990s. In 2014, the band reunited to create an album called Basement Reunion. In late 2017, Tom Scalzo of Moes Haven was recruited to the band to record Let’s Go Camping!

Moes Haven (2004-2010)

Farley met Tom Scalzo when they were both students at Providence College. Together they have recorded over twenty five albums under the name Moes Haven. ^[7] While much of Farley’s solo acts can be considered Novelty Songs, the music put out by Moes Haven is more traditional Rock Music.

Solo Acts (2008-present)

Farley is most known for the 70+ acts.^[8] Realizing that people search random words and celebrities when they’re bored, Farley has made acts based on the most likely searches. Each different act has a different theme. The majority of acts produce Novelty songs based on their theme. The Hungry Food Band sings songs about food. The Toilet Bowl Cleaners sing songs about feces. In addition to topics, Farley has capitalized on people searching for their own names with acts The Guy Who Sings Your Name Over and Over, The Best Friend Song Fun Band, The Best Birthday Song Band Ever and several others. Farley has been referred to as the first musician to embrace and utilize algorithmic searches.^[9]

Farley has also created more traditional rock music styles with acts The Very Nice Interesting Singer Man^[10], Matt Motern Manly Man ^[11], and several others.

The Finklestinks (2017)

In Late 2017, Farley met up with Chris “Pete” Peterson from Projection From The Side and started a new band called The Finklestinks. Together they recorded Double Take Action, a nod to 90s Hip-Hop.

Farley & Greenspan (2017)

In 2017, radio producer and podcast streamer Sam Greenspan spent the month of January sending all of his tweets to Farley rather than tweeting them. Farley made the album Social Media Detox from those tweets.^[12]

The Big Heist(2018)

After the second annual Motern Extravaganza, Farley, Chris “Pete” Peterson, Tom Scalzo, and Doug “Frog” Brennan formed new band The Big Heist. They created a triple-album called MO75 that is a combination of the musical styles from previous bands Projection From The Side, Moes Haven and The Finklestinks. MO75 has been called Farley’s best work. ^[13]

Motern Extravaganza

In 2017, Farley and The Big Heist band members held the first Motern Extravaganza; a five hour concert including songs from Projection From The Side, Moes Haven, The Finklestinks and several of Farley’s solo acts. Several cast members from Motern Media’s movies are also present. The Motern Extravaganza has been described as part concert and part convention. ^[14] The Third Annual Extravaganza is set to be held on May 25th, 2019.
