Matthew Pye (b. 1974) grew up in Heywood, Lancashire and attended Bury Church High School before studying Theology at Nottingham University. As a teacher he has taught at Whitworth High School, Bury Grammar School (Boys), before moving to Germany and then in 2007 onto Belgium - where he is currently co-ordinator of Philosophy at the European School of Brussels II. Since 2011, Matthew has worked closely with Michael Wadleigh (Oscar Winner, Director, 'Woodstock' 1970) and Dr Birgit van Munster, a sustainability and climate change expert. The projects they completed together, bridging the gap between the science of sustainable development and public awareness, led to The Club of Rome recognising Matthew as a Full Member in 2016. Since 2017, Matthew has worked closely with Elise Sijthoff and Child Press International. The publication of "No Common Sense - Philosophy tackles Climate Change" in January 2019 is an innovation in publishing. It offers the student a deep but approachable way into the science and social reality of climate change. Both Matthew and Elise are committed to developing a democracy that both informs and supports young people to participate fully in their world. Through the commitment and energy of Julie Ward (MEP), Child Press has used the VoxBox platform in the EU Parliament to show how much young people can already contribute to the democratic debate about their future.
