In 2005, Maurice Kirby was voted one of 14 Sporting Heroes of Greater Dandenong^[4] in a resident’s poll to coincide with 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Alongside Eileen Kirby his wife, he operated a bicycle shop in Leonard Street, Noble Park, and was a popular, versatile sports broadcaster on radio station 3XY and Nine Network Melbourne.
