{{short description|Indian scholar}}Mawlāna Nizāmuddīn Asīr AdrawīBIRTH

Respected Mawlāna was born in Adri in 1926 as, though my friends from Adri say, it is just a mere idea; he if rightly said, is born over 1920’s & thus is 100+. Hazrat

Mawlāna writes about this issue in his autobiography “Dastan NaTamam” (The Incomplete Story) that:

“This date is not written anywhere (homely documents or whatsoever) but I have heard my elders saying that when the foundation of Masjid of our Mohalla was laid down, and it was being constructed; I was born in the same year. The Masjid has written 1345H over it, so thus I assumed my CE birth year to be 1926”.[1]

EDUCATION

Mawlāna started his education from home, He then went on to Miftah-ul-Ulum in Mau & Ihya-ul-Ulum Mubarakpur for further studies. He graduated from Jamia Qasmiyya Shahi Moradabad in 1942.[2]

FAMOUS TEACHERS

Respected Mawlāna studied under the great luminaries of his time which include the likes of Mawlāna Ismail Sambhali, Mawlāna Muhammad Miyan Deobandi and

Mawlāna Sayyad Fakhruddin Ahmad (May Allah have mercy on them all.) He himself states about the teachers & darsgah’s (classes) in Madrassa Shahi Moradabad.

1: “Just entering from the gate, towards the left side is a room, this was the darsgah of our teachers Mawlāna Ismail Sambhali Saheb RA (grandfather of Maulana Dr. Mohammad Najeeb Qasmi). The pearls of linguistic eloquence would scatter from his dars of Muslim Shareef”.

2: “When you walk a few yards towards the ground of Masjid, right towards the north of this ground is a canopied darsgah, here the great writer and author Hadhrat Mawlāna Sayyad Muhammad Miyan Saheb Deobandi used to teach. He was our Tirmidhi teacher”.

3: “That is the door of Dar al-Hadith, where our great & magnificent teacher, the great Muhaddith Hadhrat Mawlāna Sayyad Fakhruddin Ahmad used to teach. He was the flag bearer of the knowledge of Hadhrat Shaykh al-Hind Mahmud al-Hasan & Allama Anwar Shah Kashmiri. He had imparted knowledge of Hadith to generations. Teaching of Bukhari Shareef & Abu Dawood Shareef was entrusted unto him. At that timeonly these four books were taught in Daura Hadith”.

POETRY

Besides being a great author, writer & historian, Mawlāna Adrawi is a fabulous poet also. A poem he wrote after the demise of his wife (she passed away on 3rd May 1995, 42 years) is quoted for reference.

Ek Hadsa Jo Sar Se Ba Zahir Guzar Gaya

Wo Zehr Banke Meri RagoN Mein Utar Gaya

Dil Hai Kahan? Dimag Kahan? Kuchh Khabar Nahi

Sheeraza-e-Hayat Kuchh Aisa Bikhar Gaya

Weeraniyan Hain Abh To Chaman Ke Naseeb Mein

Ik Qafla Bahaar Ka Aakar Guzar Gaya

Toda Hai Dam WahiN Pe Dil Nasaboor Ne

Munh Mod Kar Jahan Se Shareek-e-Safar Gaya

Abh Sari Zindagi Hai Kadi Dhup Ka Safar

Ik Ped Saaya Daar Tha, Wo Bhi Guzar Gaya

[8]

Whilst he was in Madrassa Shahi Moradabad, there was an organisation (Anjuman) of students named “Islah-ul-Bayan”. This organisation used to publish a magazine named “Al-Bayan”. Mawlāna Adrawi was chosen to be its in-charge (Mudir). During this time, Mawlāna Adrawi was addicted to poetry (if said rightly), he used to compose long poems. Sadly, all this is lost.

Mawlāna Adrawi talks about his long poem (Musaddas) named “Bang-e-Sarosh” which was over 60 to 70 units (6o-70 band). It was calligraphed and Ulama like Mawlāna Qazi Athar Mubarakpuri had written preface to it. This poem was about the downfall of Mughal Empire, and unfortunately, this poem is also lost.

SERVICES

Mawlāna Adrawi served at Jamia Islamia Banaras from 4th of February, 1978 until he was bedridden.

We pray to Allah Ta’ala for his well-being, Aameen!
