Early lifeBorn on 11 June 1971, in Chennai, Meenakshi Srinivasan received her training in Bharatanatyam first under Venkatachalapathy of Kalakshetra then later under Alarmel Valli. [1] She had her Arangetram in 1995.[2] She also received training in modern dance at the Freeman Dance Company, New York.[3] Career and notable performancesMeenakshi Srinivasan has been recurrently featured in programmes presented by important sabhās in South India, such as the Madras Music Academy, Krishna Gana Sabha, Brahma Gana Sabha, and has also performed in various dance festivals in other parts of the country including Bangalore Habba, Nadam Festival, Shilparaman Dance Festival, Dover Lane Music Conference, Devdasi Festival, Surya Festival, Swaralaya Festival and Nishagandhi Festival. On foreign shores, she has performed in Singapore, Canada, U.K., Malaysia, Holland, Belgium and France.[3] She performed at the Musee Guimet in Paris on 10th & 11th February 2012. She is also an accomplished Architect and runs a boutique Architectural practice called Calm Studio. AwardsShrimati Meenakshi has received several honours in appreciation of her work, including Natya Kala Vipanchee (2007), and Natya Kala Darshini (2012). Meenakshi Srinivasan was awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy for Music, Dance and Drama, in 2011 for her notable talent in the field of Bharatanatyam.
