Early Life and EducationLaboucan-Massimo was raised in in the small community of Buffalo of Northern Alberta and has worked with numerous organizations regarding oil spills in that region.[1] Laboucan-Massimo holds a Master’s in Indigenous Governance from the University of Victoria. Her Masters thesis was the completion of a 20.8-kilowatt solar installation in her home community of Little Buffalo in Northern Alberta.[2] This projected grew into what is now known as Lucicon Solar.[3] She has also received the Indigenous Knowledge and Climate Change Fellowship while studying.[4] CareerShe is one of the co-organizers of Tar Sands Healing Walk.[5] She is also the Secretary of the environmental organization 350.org.[6] LiteratureLaboucan-Massimo has been a contributor for two edited volumes. In Downstream: Reimagining Water she authors the chapter “From Our Home Lands to the Tar Sands.[7]” She also authors the chapter “Awaiting Justice: The Ceaseless Struggle of the Lubicon Cree.” in A Line in the Tar Sands: Struggles for Environmental Justice.[8] MediaIn addition to several documentaries, Labocan-Massimo has also hosted a Television show called Power to the People, an environmental documentary series that features difference countries and shows how renewable energy and sustainability is empowering First Peoples.[9] In 2018 she was featured on Season 3, Episode 7 of The United Shades of America hosted by W. Kamau Bell entitled “The Canadian Way."[10]
