Metcalfe Larken (alternative spelling: Metcalfe Larkin, 1849 - 27 January 1920) was a prominent land owner and coffee producer in the State of Johor during the late 19th Century and early 20th Century[1]. He was well known during this period for managing the Castlewood Estate in Southern Johor; several landmarks in modern Johor are named after him, including the Larkin suburb in Johor Bahru, Larkin Plaza and Larkin Sentral Bus Terminal. He is not to be confused with Metcalfe Larken Esq., a civil servant who worked within the Bengal Establishment. Larken returned to the United Kingdom in 1913. He developed cancer, and died on 27 January 1920 in Richmond, Surrey[2][3] References1. ^Prince of Pirates: The Temenggongs and the Development of Johor and Singapore, 1784–1885, Trocki, Carl A., Singapore University Press, 1979 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://eresources.nlb.gov.sg/newspapers/Digitised/Article/singfreepressb19200306-1.2.20|title=Untitled|website=eresources.nlb.gov.sg}} 3. ^https://www.findmypast.co.uk/transcript?id=BMD/D/1920/1/AZ/000625/076 Metcalfe Larken{{AFC submission|||ts=20190210040308|u=121.6.121.40|ns=118}} |
