Overview

Microsoft Expression Studio 3 was a web-design toolkit. It contained software in the Microsoft Expression 3 line, such as Expression Design 3, Expression Web 3, Expression Blend 3, and Expression Encoder 3. It was the last in the Microsoft Expression Studio line.

Expression Web 3

Microsoft Expression Web 3 is an HTML designer where you can graphically edit pages, but you may also manually program it. However, it had earlier web standards than today. It used CSS 2.1 and HTML 4 instead of CSS 3 and HTML5.

Expression Encoder 3

Expression Encoder 3 is a tool for converting videos to Microsoft Silverlight applications. It also had a screen capture tool built-in as an additional program (Expression Encoder Screen Capture).

Expression Design 3

Expression Design 3 is a vector graphic design program, in a similar fashion to Adobe Illustrator. It supported both Photoshop files (.psd) and Illustrator files. It used vector graphics, so you could zoom in on the image (in editor only) and it would not be pixelated. When exported, however, it would become pixelated if zoomed in on. It also did not support the .SVG file format.

Expression Blend 3

Expression Blend 3 is a Silverlight/.NET development environment, later sold alongside Visual Studio 2012-current as Visual Studio Blend, which included a tool called "SketchFlow", for as Microsoft describes it, "rapid prototyping".
