Milestone Systems A/S is a provider of network video recorders (NVR) open platform IP video management software (VMS) with headquarters in Copenhagen.^[1] Milestone Systems has more than 150,000 customer installations in city surveillance, education, finance, government, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, retail and transportation industries. History

Founded in 1998 in Denmark, Milestone Systems was a software development company that could improve business through managing and distributing digital video data regardless of time or location^[8]. At that time, the security market was mainly operating with proprietary analogue equipment, and the digital share of sales grew slowly at first. This gradual pace allowed Milestone Systems to grow organically, without the need for external funding. Milestone Systems opened the first regional headquarters in USA in 2004 and another one in the APAC region in 2006. In August 2008 the company received external funding through a growth fund of Index Ventures to establish additional financial strength to utilize more opportunities of the fast-growing IP video surveillance market. In 2013, Milestone acquired Connex International Inc.^[9], which had worked as a surveillance training, certification and consulting company. With this acquisition Milestone gained an asset to train the partner channel in open platform IP video skills and to create value for everyone in the industry. In June 2014, Canon Inc acquired Milestone Systems.^[10] Canon had a clear ambition to drive future growth through diversification and had identified network video surveillance as a strategic new business area^[11]. The XProtect open platform can integrate with products and integrations from Milestone System’s community of technology and camera partners to accommodate individual business needs^[12].
