The Minnesota State Mavericks football program represents Minnesota State University, Mankato (MNSU) in the sport of American Football. The team competes in NCAA Division II of the

National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the South Division of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Mavericks are one of the most successful teams at the Division II level, most notably beginning their success with the hiring of Head Coach Todd Hoffner in 2008.

MNSU has a total record of 464 wins, 384 losses and 28 ties throughout its history as a football program. The Mavericks also claim a total of 22 conference titles throughout its 92 years of play, including six since their affiliation with the NSIC[1]. They also have appeared in the NCAA Division II Football Playoffs a total of 11 times, claiming an 11-11 Record. The Mavericks have been members of the South Division of the NSIC for 11 years, holding a record of 99-13. Throughout their time in the conference they have tied the record for most conference wins in a season four times, with only the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs and the University of Sioux Falls Cougars reaching the same mark[2].

MNSU plays its home games at Blakeslee Stadium on campus in Mankato, Minnesota. It has a capacity of 7,500 and it one of two non-turf fields in the NSIC.

Minnesota State has had a total of 16 coaches throughout its history as a varsity sport[3]. Currently the Head Coach of the Mavericks is Todd Hoffner, who holds a career record of 92-20. This is his second stint as the Maverick head coach, previously serving from 2008 to 2011. While serving as Head Coach, he has led the Mavericks to five of their six NSIC Championships. They have also made six of their NCAA Tournament appearances while under Hoffner[4].
