Crew [4]
Distribution"Miracle" had its world premiere in the Discovery section of the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival on September 8th of 2017 becoming the first film from Lithuania to screen at one of the biggest film festivals in the world in 17 years[5]. After that, the film was screened at 9 more international film festivals, including three A-class FIAPF accredited film festivals (Cairo International Film Festival, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and International Minsk Film Festival "Listapad"). [2] "Miracle" is represented internationally by French sales company WIDE. "Miracle" is already sold for distribution in 24 territories around the world, including France, USA and 22 countries in Asia, among others, China, Hong kong, Thailand, India and Vietnam.[6] Critical responseInternational programmer of the Toronto International Film Festival Dimitri Eipides says, that "Miracle" announces the arrival of a bright new talent. He describes "Miracle" as "a cinematic wonder of simplicity that charms both heart and spirit", and compares its style and tone to Finnish director's Aki Kaurismäki's work, and says that film's lead actress Eglė Mikulionytė channels Aki Kaurismäki's muse Kati Outinen..[7] In his capsule review for Afrotoronto.com, Gilbert Seah describes "Miracle" as edgy and complitely engaging[8]. Film critic Vassilis Economou writes in "Cineuropa": "Miracle is a subtle, deadpan, tragicomic and almost satirical critique on the abrupt passage from communism to rampant capitalism and the unconventional lust for anything Westernised that the former Soviet republics displayed in the early 1990s"[9]. Michael McNeely in his review in Dork Shelf says: "Egle Vertelyte’s Lithuanian-language film, Miracle, joins the ranks of spot-on Eastern European satires…a dry sense of humor, strong female lead, and intriguing complexities"[10] In one of the most popular Icelandic newspapers "Vísir" Tómas Valgeirsson says: “The story tells us in a fresh way about our connection with the past, home country, the difficulty in looking forward. (...) In the director's seat, Egle Vertelyte ensures that no frame is wasted and keeps a lively rhythm with unpredictable progress that never loses the flight or an overview of the farse or themes. (...) The atmosphere is lightweight and pleasant dry humor overlooks the small town’s story that has a lot to say. Irony also plays a very important role. The film is straightforward and fun, low-pitched, funny on sections, exaggerated in profile and progress, but unconventional and credible in its characters.”[11] External ilnks
