Mixo Fortune Ngoveni (Born August 1,1986) is a South African entrepreneur in technology he is known mostly for being the Founder and CEO of Geekulcha.[1]

Early Life

Born in Giyani Limpopo, Mixo is the first born of 4 children to his parents. In the early years of his primary schooling his family moved to Tzaneen and he continued his primary school career at Meridian Combined School, Nkowankowa and from grade 5 till his final year in primary being grade 7 he attended Laerskool Tzaneen. He began playing soccer and rugby in Laerskool Tzaneen. He attended high school at Ben Vorster High School for a short period and then moved to Merensky High School, he attended Merensky High School for two years where he was the soccer captain, his family then moved to Pretoria when he was in grade 10 and he completed high school in Akasia High school.  

Tertiary Life  

Mixo attended the Tshwane University Of Technology[2] (also known as TUT) and completed his National Diploma in business informatics[3]. During his final year in university he created a Facebook page called INNOvatorz.IT[4][5] which was made to create a platform for TUT students to interact and create unorthodox and creative information technology solutions to problems. According to his interview with TechReport[6] Mixo mentions that he is still involved in a number of student development programs at TUT which empower IT graduates to gain more practical insights on the career paths they have chosen.

Career

In 2010[7] Mixo represented TUT at the Microsoft Imagine cup[8] where he was selected as one of six Microsoft Students partners in South Africa. Soon after completing the Microsoft program Mr Ngoveni pursued his passion of giving young people opportunities such as the one he had been given by Microsoft through the facebook page INNOvatorz.IT[9]. According to Destiny Man.com[10] Mr Nguveni used the experience he had received at Microsoft to change the way he had thought of innovation in the IT sector and soon after that he registered Geekulcha. According to pressreader.com[11] in its first year Geekulcha eployed over 15 workers. In an interview with ITweb[5] Mixo mentions his work with Microsoft to assist IT students at TUT discover new trends and access to resources that would boost their careers. He manages the redbull basement[12] a Tech initiative that was started in Brazil but has made its way to South Africa with the aim of supporting the tech community. He has also worked at CoachLab[13] a leadership and Entrepreneurial skills development program for IT graduates where graduates work on projects with the hopes of giving them opportunity to develop and sharpen their skills. He chairs on the organizational committee of TedxPretoria. In an interview with IITPSA[7] MIxo expresses the passion he has for helping and developing students which has resulted in assisting so many people startup and grow their careers.

Geekulcha

Geekulcha[1] (established March 15, 2013) is an Information Technology company that allows students across Africa interested in all things IT to connect and learn from each other’s skills while gaining work experience. It is a company aimed at empowering young creatives through IT skills development with the mission of preparing young graduates for the industry. Geekulcha allows like minded people who are driven by innovation in IT to share ideas and create solutions for any tech related problem. According to their web page [14][15] they work on projects and are given opportunities to connect with industry leaders.
