BiographyNakamura was born in Tokyo. In 1978, she graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University's English and American literature department, and completed her doctoral graduate studies at the Graduate School of Foreign Language Studies at Sophia University while majoring in linguistics. She became a full-time lecturer at Kanto Gakuin University in 1987, an associate professor in 1991, and a professor in 1997. From 1992 to 1994, she was a visiting researcher at the University of British Columbia in Canada. Nakamura received the Yamakawa Kikue Award for her work, {{Nihongo|Gender, Language and Ideology: A genealogy of Japanese women’s language|「女ことば」はつくられる|"Onnakotoba" wa tsukura reru}}, in 2007.[1] For her doctorate in humanities at Ochanomizu University in 2011, her thesis was {{Nihongo|The ideology of Japanese women’s language: a historical discourse analysis|日本語における女ことばのイデオロギー|Nihongo ni okeru onnakotoba no ideorogī}}.
