Moose the East Hill Publix Cat was a classic gray mackerel tabby who became a local celebrity and gained international notoriety as the unofficial greeter of the Publix supermarket located in the East Hill neighborhood of Pensacola, Florida. A Facebook page was created on behalf of Moose's owners following several attempted "catnappings" by well-meaning shoppers who mistook the friendly feline as a homeless stray. Within a year, the "Moose the East Hill Publix Cat" Facebook Page had garnered more than 6,800 likes by fans from around the world. The grocery store even erected a "Moose Crossing" sign at the pedestrian crosswalks leading from the store parking lot. On February 16, 2019, Moose was struck and killed by a car while crossing Cervantes Street (US Hwy 90). Tributes to Moose the East Hill Publix Cat included a painting on the iconic 17th Avenue Graffiti Bridge and a memorial site set up at the North side "Moose Crossing".
