Morenike Molehin

Morenike Molehin born May 5, 1989 is the Founder and Creative Director of Oak and Teak – a fast growing full-service interior design and furniture making company in Nigeria, West Africa. As of January 2019, over a period of four short years, Morenike has succeeded in positioning Oak and Teak as a leading interior design company with expertise in servicing residential and corporate clients.

Early Life

Morenike Molehin, a devout Christian woman who hails from Ijebu-Ode Ogun State, was born to Bolajoko Abiodun and Olubunmi Ganiat Odutola on May 5, 2019. She is the first of three children.

Morenike began her education at St. Anthony Nursery and Primary School [1], Dansol High School [2] and went on to obtain a bachelor's degree in Industrial Mathematics from Covenant University Ota and a master's degree in Financial Mathematics and Computation from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom.

Business Career

Between 2009-2010 Morenike worked with Exxon Mobil. She transitioned to a job at Protax Consulting in 2012 and in 2013 she was Managing Director at Newer Heights Limited until 2017. In 2017 she left the corporate world and launched full time into the world of entrepreneurship pursuing her love for interior decoration and design. Prior to starting out, she spent one year in a rigorous personal online study about the business of interior design. Knowledge acquired from her personal study set the foundation on which she built Oak and Teak which today is arguably the fastest growing full-service interior design and furniture making company in Nigeria, West Africa.

Her entry strategy into the interior design business was to target clientele who were looking to furnish and set up nurseries for their babies a relatively uncontested sub-segment of the industry at the time in Nigeria. This was how she carved a niche for her company and built a stellar reputation for exceeding customer expectations by going above the line of duty. Consequently, with several satisfied customers in the bag, Morenike gradually diversified the Oak and Teak service offerings and expanded the clientele to include those who wanted the services of an interior designer for their residential and commercial spaces. Through her focused leadership and low-cost business strategies, Morenike has strategically and profitably grown the Oak and Teak brand to become an exemplary startup company in Nigeria. While the company is based in Lagos, it has served clients across multiple states in Nigeria as well as international projects in Dubai. Her corporate clients cut across several industries including; financial service, hospitality, non-profits, schools, and recently a five-star hotel. A competitive advantage which she tactfully created for her company is its ability to deliver cutting edge designs that satisfy the aesthetic and functional requirements of clients at competitive prices, which has made Oak and Teak a household name in the interior design industry in Nigeria.

Her company employs six full-time staff and over forty contract staff who specialize in carpentry, painting, electrical works, plumbing, tiling, among others and are Nationals of Nigeria, Ghana, and Benin Republic. Morenike has led her team to execute over 80 projects of various complexities and as of 2018, the company generated revenues in excess of nine digits in naira.

Awards

Morenike has been nominated for and won entrepreneurial awards,[3] she has been featured on several media platforms (print, online and TV) and is a frequent speaker at entrepreneurship and empowerment seminars. [4] [5]

In addition, her company partnered with a public school to renovate and equip its library. In 2019, the company has plans to carry out the renovation of other public schools.

BGLI is a non-government organization founded to empower, groom, and prepare the girl child to realize her full potential and live confidently.
