The Moscow Economic Forum (MEF; {{lang-ru|Московский экономический форум}}), based in Moscow, Russia, was founded in 2013 as a notforprofit, non-governmental organization. MEF is the annual international scientific-practical conference on the problems of the economy, industrial policy and foreign economic policy of Russia. The main goal of the MEF is to develop strategic decisions and constructive programs aimed at the development of Russia's economic, industrial and foreign economic policy[1]. The main task of the MEF is to develop ways of reviving the real sector of the Russian economy[2]. Venue − Moscow State University (2013−2017), Russian Academy of Sciences (2018).

The strategic line of the MEF is to promote the ideas of the policy of state protectionism in a market economy, to analyze the contradictions of the dominant since the early 1990s course of development of the country, to assess the potential of alternative development of the Russian economy and the possibilities of its implementation[3].

MEF expresses the interests of Russian business from the real sector of the economy[4][5][6].

Organizational features of the MEF

Unlike other Russian economic forums, the MEF is held on the initiative "from below". It is not organized by the Government of the Russian Federation, but by representatives of Russian business, education and science.

The MEF organizing Committee is headed by Konstantin Babkin (co-chair), Ruslan Grinberg (co-chair) and Viktor Sadovnichiy (co-chair) (2013−2017).

History

  • The I Moscow Economic Forum was held on 20–21 March 2013. The theme was "Against Market Fundamentalism — For Reasonable Economic Policy". 1321 participants from 30 countries. The Forum includes 4 plenary sessions, 38 conferences, seminars and round tables.
  • The II Moscow Economic Forum was held on 26–27 March 2014. The theme was "For the Development of Production!". Participants-1870 people from 53 regions of Russia and 20 countries. Business programme — 4 plenary sessions, 10 conferences and round-table 32.
  • The III Moscow Economic Forum was held on 25–26 March 2015. The theme was "The New Course. Time is Not Waiting!!". 2098 participants from 21 countries. The Forum includes 4 plenary sessions, 38 conferences, seminars and round tables.
  • The IV Moscow Economic Forum was held on 23–24 March 2016. The theme was "25 Years of Market Reforms in Russia and the World. What's Next?". 3114 participants from 47 regions of Russia and 21 countries. The Forum includes 4 plenary sessions, 45 conferences, seminars and round tables.
  • The V Moscow Economic Forum was held on 30–31 March 2017. The theme was "A Turn in World History. New Strategy of Russia". 3117 participants from 13 countries. The Forum includes 4 plenary sessions, 41 events: conferences, seminars and round tables.
  • The VI Moscow Economic Forum was held on 3–4 April 2018. The theme was "Russia and the World: the Way of the Future". 1950 participants from 13 countries. The Forum includes 4 plenary sessions, 20 conferences, seminars and round tables.
