It is Assam’s first movie streaming platform which provides the opportunity to watch movies made in different languages over the years as well as new movies at a minimal cost. Movietonne was launched on 18th of August, 2018.[5][6][7] Looking at the rich history of Assamese cinema, it is considered necessary to promote the cinemas of North East, India worldwide.[8][9] Works of film makers from this region also have been admired at various international film festivals, including Village Rockstars which has been the official entry in Best Foreign film category from India to 91st Academy Awards.

Content

Movietonne, a startup, aims to offer over 100 regional cinemas in the future.[10][11] Movietonne- the name has been taken from the banner Chitralekha Movietone, under which the first Assamese movie Joymoti (1935 film) or Joimoti (Assamese: জয়মতী), produced and directed by noted cultural icon of Assam Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, was released. Award winning and well crafted assamese movies of renowned film makers of Assam, such as Bhabendra Nath Saikia, Munin Barua, Sanjib Sabha Pandit, Manju Borah, Kenny Basumatary, Rajni Basumatary, Abdul Majid, Prodyut Kumar Deka is already available on Movietonne.

Viewership

Movietonne has currently 500+ user and it further looks forward to make the cinephile across the globe aware of the cinemas from this particular region.
