The first in the series was published in 2016 and edited by Pat Matsueda[2] and Sheyene Foster Heller. The second anthology was published in 2017 by El León Literary Arts[3] and edited by Connie Pan and Pat Matsueda. The concept of the series is that everyone can benefit from reading works by women featuring the male perspective or male characters; that is, women bring a powerful, essential perspective and understanding to masculinity and maleness. The series includes poems, essays, and fiction about men written by women in the U.S., India, and elsewhere. The genesis of the series was a panel presentation at the 2014 conference of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs.[4] An introduction by South Asian poet, translator, and editor Sukrita Paul Kumar[5] appeared in the first edition. A preface by Jill McCabe Johnson[6] and introduction by Kristiana Kahakauwila[7] appeared in the second edition. Reviews of the second edition appeared in Book Riot[8] and Essay Daily[9]. Other media coverage includes interviews with Chris Vandercook, host of Hawaii Public Radio's The Conversation, [10] and with Anjoli Roy, host of KTUH-FM's It's Lit with PhDJ[11] A third anthology is planned for 2019. |
