Dawn, II. Providence, III. The Reckoning, and IV. Wake – from May 10, 2016 to February 4, 2017.[2] EPs I and II were produced by Scotty Morris of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.[3] As the title suggests, Murder Ballads of 1816: The Year Without a Summer is a collection of original murder ballads[4] set during the strange and unseasonable storm of 1816 that devastated New England and hastened America's violent Westward Expansion.[5] The album features "Pretty Lavinia", based on the misdeeds of Lavinia Fisher, America's first purported female serial killer,[6] a rendition of the traditional child ballad, "Edward", a “Cain and Abel type story”[7] about a boy who murders his brother and then lies to his mother about the cause of the blood on his skin and clothing,[8] and the first female personification of America, "Columbia", exalted in a drunken and bloody deconstruction of one of America's first unofficial national anthems, "Hail, Columbia!"[9] The album's arrangements include minor key variations of old American patriotic tunes like "Yankee Doodle" and "Hail To The Chief", traditional shape note choral singing, as well as introducing themes that would continue on future American Murder Song albums, like the Mark of Cain and phrases like 'Murder be thy name'.[10] In October of 2016, American Murder Song took Murder Ballads of 1816: The Year Without a Summer on the road with The American Wake Tour[11] and released section from the album as 12 Songs of Bad, Bad Murder on 12” vinyl.[12] Track listing{{Track listing| collapsed = no | headline = | all_lyrics = Saar Hendelman and Terrance Zdunich | all_music = Saar Hendelman and Terrance Zdunich | total_length = 1:13:51 | title1 = Murder!
