Mr. Mustafa Khedewi (مصطفى خديوي) (born ٍin Sohag, 12 January 1987) is a graduate of Al-Azhar University, and currently a PhD Candidate and Teaching Assistant at the University of Aberdeen, he is academically specializing in politics and international relations and the politics of the Middle East. He has been working in several international organisation and projects and has written and advised on political and international affairs. Early life and educationLLB, MSc, AFHEA[1], PhD Candidate In 2010, he has obtained his LLB in Sharia and Law in English, from Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt. It was the first degree of its kind in Al-Azhar University ever, accordingly the graduation ceremony has been attended by several ministers and led by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Dr Ahmed Al-Tayyib , along to the British Ambassador to Egypt and other religious and political figures. In 2011, Mr Khedewi has been nominated by Al-Azhar University and the British Council to study a foundation course (English Language and Academic Studies) at (SOAS) University of London. Wherein he started his international journey and contact with the outside world, by focusing on studying International Relations it was a great shift for a graduate of Al-Azhar who is supposed to focus on Islamic studies. In 2012, Mr Khedewi has successfully obtained a Chevening Scholarship to start his Master studies in the UK. He decided to enhance his knowledge on International affairs, however this time he preferred to move to other parts of the UK for his studies, choosing Scotland and the University of Aberdeen for its high ranking and reputation as the fifth oldest university in the English speaking world. So after more than a year of intensive learning and experience he graduated in 2014 with MSc in International Relations and International Law. Academic involvementResearch InterestsSince the beginning of the Arab Spring, many Arab and Egyptian youth became increasingly interested in understanding the roots of the revolution and how they can help their countries. In this regard Mr Khedewi was no exception, as he directed his focus to the political and social transformation in the Arab World. He pays to much attention to the role of religious institutions and democratisation theory and securitisation, his experience at Al-Azhar allowed him to explore many theories from an Islamic perspective. Nonetheless, he also keeps his main interest in Islamic political thought and law.
