ContentThe documentary tells of the 1969 theft of the Nativity with St. Francis and St. Lawrence by Caravaggio from the Oratory of San Lorenzo in Palermo. In addition to retracing the history of the painting from its creation to the unresolved theft, the documentary tells the recreation of the work at the hands of a team of historians and technical conservators who have made a re-materialization identical to the original. The documentary narrates the findings and scientific studies on other works by Caravaggio and on the few existing photographs of the original together with the investigations into the unexplored possibilities in the field of conservation of the historical-artistic heritage. Among the contributors there are the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella, Claudio Strinati, Pietro Grasso, Kate Bryan and Adam Lowe. The documentary reconstructs the history of theft of the Nativity and its restitution among the stuccoes of Giacomo Serpotta, in the place for which the painting was originally conceived.[1][2][3] RestitutionThe re-materialisation of Caravaggio's Nativity with St. Francis and St. Lawrence by a group of conservative and historical technical experts at Factum Arte was commissioned by Sky plc and given to the Italian Republic so that it could be returned to its original place. In Palermo an official ceremony was held with the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella.[4][5] Note1. ^{{cite journal|last1=Squires|first1=Nick|title= How a long-lost Caravaggio masterpiece was recreated, nearly 50 years after it was stolen|journal=The Telegraph|date=December 10, 2015|url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/italy/12044479/How-a-long-lost-Caravaggio-masterpiece-was-recreated-nearly-50-years-after-it-was-stolen.html}} 2. ^{{cite journal|last1=Vivarelli|first1=Nick|title= Murdoch-Owned Sky Paybox Mixes Philanthropy And Production With ‘Operation Caravaggio’|journal=Variety|date=December 18, 2015|url=https://variety.com/2015/tv/global/murdoch-owned-sky-paybox-mixes-philanthropy-and-production-with-operation-caravaggio-1201662897/}} 3. ^{{cite journal|last1=Zalewski|first1=Daniel|title=The Factory of Fakes|journal=The New Yorker|date=November 28, 2016|pages=75, 77|url=http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/11/28/the-factory-of-fakes}} 4. ^{{cite journal|last1=Neuendorf|first1=Henri|title=Caravaggio Masterpiece Stolen in Notorious Mafia Heist Replaced with Replica|journal=Artnet News|date=December 11, 2015|url=http://https://news.artnet.com/art-world/stolen-caravaggio-replaced-replica-391166}} 5. ^{{cite journal|last1=Kirchgaessner|first1=Stephanie|title='Restitution of a lost beauty': Caravaggio Nativity replica brought to Palermo|journal=The Guardian|date=December 10, 2015|url=https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2015/dec/10/restitution-lost-beauty-stolen-caravaggio-nativity-replica-brought-palermo}} External Links
