National Socialism, (German: Nationalsozialismus), most commonly referred to as Nazism is a series of ideologies associated with the Nazi Party, of Nazi Germany and other countries with similar ideas.[1]

Nazism in Europe primarily started with the German Workers‘ Party and then later with Adolf Hitler joining said party. Nazism can be described as a Fascist movement inspired in part by Benito Mussolini’s own Fascist movement in Italy. Nazism can also be described by extreme anti-antisemitism and this idea has been echoed by other nations that adopt Nazi Ideals.[1]

Although mainly popular in Nazi Germany from the 1920’s through to 1945, Nazism has been adopted in modern times by criminal motorcycle gangs and white supremacist groups often operating on the political fringes of western society.[1]

Origins

Early Origins

The origins of The National Socialism movement start with the German Workers‘ Party in 1919 founded by a man named Anton Drexler in Munich Germany. The core ideas of the party were mainly celebration of German Nationalism and socialist ideas.[2]

Extreme anti-Semitic ideas started to surface among the party’s ideas due to their belief that the Jewish people were behind many of Germany’s political and econonmic problems.[2]

Adolf Hitlers Involvement

After World War 1 a young Adolf Hitler returned to Munich fueled by anti-Semitic ideas and a fierce sense of German Pride and Nationalism. He attended a party at a beer hall where many members of the party were including Anton Drexler. After Hitler got into a heated argument with a professor at the beer hall many of the party’s members were impressed by Hitler’s excellent oratory skills, and he was promptly offered to join the party.[2]

The party members were quickly won over by Adolf Hitler’s political beliefs and after he organized the party’s largest meeting, he renamed the party the National Socialist German Workers‘ Party or the Nazi Party.[2]

Ideology

The Nazi ideology was primarily anti-antisemitism and German Nationalism. Another primary idea of the Nazi Party was that of racial superiority and expansionism, with believing that they should expand into mainly Eastern Europe bringing with them German ideals and trying to create a purely Aryan race.[1][2]
