Nina Di Majo is an Italian actress, film director and screenwriter. Majo’s films are humanitarian and focus on the rise of the average human in an Italian context. Calling herself a pacifist, activist, ecologist, Majo is also a devout feminist and believes in the power of the ‘creative women’, a cause she herself partakes in.


Early Life

Majo was born to the musician Giulio Di Majo and actress Adele Nunziante Cesaro on August 20th, 1975 in Naples, Italy. She graduated from University of Bolognia with a degree in DAMS (Drama, Arts and Music Studies) under the Philosophy and Literature Department. Majo then went on to gain directing experience by working as an Assistant Director under Italian Directors such as Sandro Sequi, Armando Pugliese, Franco Autiero, Giorgio Magliulo, Manlio Santanelli, and finally had her major film training with Mario Martone under whom she worked on the film Nasty Love (L’amour Molesto) as a second assistant director.

Career

Under the director Mario Martone, Majo made her acting debut with Rehearsals for War/Teatro di Guerra as the role of Giornalista. She then went on to make her own three short films called Spalle al muro (1997), Era una note buia e tempestosa (1997) and Corti Steralli 2 (1998) and eventually made her feature film breakout in directing with Autunno (1999), a story about three different characters who want to make sense of their lives; Majo also plays the role of Costanza in this film as well as being the screenwriter for the film. Majo has worked on a couple of feature films since as a director, actress and a screenwriter while turning on to documentary in her latest acting role in Registe (2014), about women directors, where she plays as herself.
