{{DISPLAYTITLE:NOLO VR}}NOLO VR (Chinese: 凌宇智控) is a Chinese technology company founded by Daoning Zhang in April 2015 in Beijing, China.[1] It focuses in the field of mobile VR/AR interaction. In 2017, NOLO VR released its first VR product, NOLO CV1, for 6DoF positional tracking of mobile VR. [2]

History

In 2015, the NOLO VR dev team conceived and patented their core technology PolarTraq, a spatial positional tracking system which fuses optic, acoustic and radio signals.[1] Following a Pre-A round funding,[3][4] NOLO VR initially announced the prototype of their mobile VR positional tracking kit, dubbed Cobb, to the Chinese VR media.[5][6][7]

NOLO VR began to draw global attention since November, 2016.[8][9][10] In January 2017, Cobb made its first public appearance at CES held in Las Vegas, which had received many response in VR industry.[11][12] NOLO VR launched their crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter right after CES 2017, announcing its customer version product of Cobb - NOLO CV1, which allowed backers to play both mobile VR and SteamVR games with mobile VR headsets and smartphones.[13] The campaign successfully met the funding goal within hours.[14][15] One month later, NOLO VR added desktop VR support for NOLO CV1.[16] The campaign was officially ended in March 2017 with over $200,000 (USD) funded.[17] NOLO VR finished the mass production as scheduled and began international delivery for the Kickstarter backers in June, 2017.[18]

After operating quitely since June 2017, NOLO HOME beta, a mobile VR application platform based on Android,[19] was officially released by NOLO VR in January 2018, aiming to provide 6DoF phone-rendered VR contents for NOLO CV1 users.[20] In May 2018, NOLO VR announced a $10M Series A financing led by BlueRun Ventures, followed by Lotus Capital.[21][22][23] On June 10, 2018, NOLO VR launched the full version of its NOLO HOME content platform, adding the global payment system, the Gear VR support and more NOLO compatible game titles.[24]

Products

NOLO CV1

NOLO CV1 is a VR/AR motion tracking kit designed to be used with all kinds of mobile VR headsets, like Samsung Gear VR and Cardboard style headset, offering 6 degree of freedom positional tracking for handheld controllers and headset.[25] In addition, NOLO VR added desktop VR support in February 2017.[16] It consists of one base station, one headset marker, and two controllers.[25] NOLO CV1 was originally launched on Kickstarter of $99 (USD), and now is available on Amazon at a price of $199 (USD).[26]

  • Base Station: The base station has a 100 degree field of view, and a tracking radius up to 5 meters. It emits the infrared pulses and the ultrasound waves that can be received by the headset marker and the controllers. With the internal battery, a single charge can keep it running for 4 hours.[27]
  • Headset Marker: Besides enabling the head tracking via the sphere on the top, the headset marker also calculates the tracking data with the built-in chip and sends them directly to the phone or the PC.[27]
  • Controller: The controller provides 6DoF tracking for both hands in VR. Each controller features a touchpad, a trigger, a menu button, a system button, a pair button and two grip buttons for the input. It can run for 7 hours with a single charge.[27]

NOLO HOME

NOLO HOME is a VR application store for android smartphones, distributing quality VR contents that compatible with NOLO VR 6DoF tracking.[19] The contents support both Samsung Gear VR and Cardboard style headsets. NOLO VR has also implemented a global payment system in NOLO HOME.[24]

Homido VR

In January 2017, NOLO VR partnered with Homido VR to bundle the NOLO CV1 with the Homido V2 headset on Kickstarter.[28]

Pimax VR

In February 2017, NOLO VR worked with Pimax VR to provide 6DoF positional tracking for PiMax 4K PC VR headset.[16]

Media Kobo Inc.

NOLO VR and Media Kobo Inc. announce agreement on April 2, 2018, to expand consumer market in Japan based on the NOLO hardware and software product – NOLO CV1 and NOLO HOME.[29][30]

Deepoon VR

In May 2018, NOLO VR partnered with Deepoon VR to provide 6DoF positional tracking for Deepoon E3B PC VR headset and started selling Deepoon E3B & NOLO CV1 bundle on JD.com and Tmall.com.[31]

Inlife-Handnet

In June 2018, NOLO VR partnered with Inlife-Handnet to provide 6DoF positional tracking for Viulux V8 PC VR headset and started selling Viulux V8 & NOLO CV1 bundle on JD.com and Tmall.com.[32]

iQiYi VR

In June 2018, NOLO VR partnered with iQiYi VR to provide 6DoF positional tracking for Xiaoyueyue Plus mobile VR headset and started selling Xiaoyueyue Plus & NOLO CV1 bundle on JD.com and Tmall.com. [33]

Metro VR Studios

On June 21, 2018, Metro VR Studios announced its internaltional product launch and distribution partnership with NOLO VR, including Orion 13™ and Quest of the Pirate King™.[34]
