}}North Point School for Boys is an Alberta Education accredited independent all boys' school in Calgary for students in Kindergarten to Grade 9. North Point School.^[1] It is a member of Association of Independent Schools and Colleges of Alberta (AISCA), International Boys' School Coalition (IBSC) and OurKids^[2] network.^[3]

History

North Point School for Boys was established in 2014 as the first Private Boys' School in Calgary (and Alberta) for active and energetic young men.^[4]. It opened in Fall 2015^[5] with 7 students, located inside the Red Deer Lake School for the 2015-16 school year. Since August 2016, North Point School has operated in central Calgary in the Richmond-Knob Hill community. The school was founded by Kim Pirie^[6]. Mr. Brent Devost has been the Head of School since the school started in 2015.^[6]

Program Elements

Academics

North Point School bases their program on challenging academics, a broad-based fine arts program, in-depth physical and athletics program, and life skills & emotional health. Key elements of the program include blended learning, experiential learning, socratic teaching, skill mastery, mentorship, athletics, outdoor education and involvement in the local community.

Technology integration

Each student at North Point has access to a technological device. Students in grades K-3 have access to school tablets. Students in grades 4-9 use school Chromebooks.

Physical Education

North Point has a full time Director of Physical Education. Students participate in physical education Monday to Thursday for 1 hour.^[8]

The character foundation at North Point is based on their 5R Character philosophy - Respectful, Resourceful, Resilient, Relentless and Responsible.

Alberta curriculum

At North Point School, students take mandatory standardized provincial tests in Grades 3, 6, 9.

PEP Hockey Academy

North Point School offers an optional hockey skill training academy - Power Edge Pro (PEP) Hockey Academy. This program is integrated with the Physical Education curriculum and is available to boys in grades 4-9. Fees are associated with this program. Head of School Brent Devost, leads the Hockey Academy and is also the Head Coach for the SAIT Trojans Men's Hockey Team^[10]^[11]

Financial Academy

North Point School teaches a Financial Literacy curriculum weekly to all students.^[6]
