Olivia Rose Stambouliah [1] (born 10 April 1982), is an Australian actress. She is best known for her roles as Voula Karandonis in Seven Network family drama series Packed to the Rafters (2008–2013), Amy Winehouse in Nine Network live broadcast sketch comedy series Ben Elton Live from Planet Earth (2011) hosted by Ben Elton and produced by FreemantleMedia, and Denise Tilbury in ABC crime/thriller television film The Silence (2006) directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Jan Chapman. She currently stars as Rose in ABC comedy series Soul Mates (2014–present) streaming on NBCUniversal Seeso.

Stambouliah's other notable works include her first lead role in Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) film My Sister and I (2007) mentored by Jane Campion and pre-selected for Cannes Film Festival, the title role in award-winning film April in July (2008) directed by Joel Pront, Fox8 drama series Dangerous (2007) produced by John Edwards and Southern Star, ABC children's drama series My Place (2009-2011) produced by Penny Chapman and Matchbox Pictures, and Foxtel true-crime series Crime Investigation Australia (2005-2009) hosted by Steve Liebmann.

Early life

Stambouliah was born in Sydney, New South Wales, and grew up in the suburb of Kingsgrove. She is the daughter of Hadi and Marie-Therese and the second eldest of five siblings; Laura, Justin, Karina and Luke. Her father is a psychologist and was born in Khartoum, Sudan, and emigrated to Australia in 1971. Her mother is a teacher. She is third generation Australian on her mother's side; her great-grandparents emigrated from Lebanon to the country town of Bathurst, New South Wales, in the late 19th century. Her family heritage also includes ancestors from Syria, Turkey and France. Her surname originates from Istanbul, Turkey, and was originally spelt Istānbūlīya (a toponymic surname derived from Istanbul). [2] She attended primary school at Santa Maria del Monte, Strathfield, and for her secondary education she attended Santa Sabina College, Strathfield, where she was elected drama captain. She graduated with a Bachelor of Performance Theory and Practice from the University of Western Sydney, Theatre Nepean, in 2004 [3] and founded an independent theatre company, THE GOODS Theatre Company, [4] in Sydney and Los Angeles.

Stambouliah received her green card and moved to Los Angeles, California, on 16 April 2017. [5]

Stambouliah's major stage plays include highly successful seasons of Sydney Theatre Company's Arms and the Man [6] with Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton as artistic directors, Griffin Theatre Company's The Turquoise Elephant, [7] Ensemble Theatre's Frankenstein [8] and Sydney Festival's Hakawati. [9] Stambouliah's acclaimed lead roles on stage include References to Salvador Dali make me hot, [10] Medea, Taming of the Shrew, The Visit, Stop Kiss, [11] The Europeans and Dropped. [12]
