The company was founded by Dominic Dromgoole in 2016 and produces feature films. CompanyOpen Palm Films was established in 2016 by Dominic Dromgoole (following a decade as artistic director of the Globe Theatre). So far they have fully produced four films shot in 2017: Making Noise Quietly, Undercliffe, Pond Life and Benjamin with a further feature,Dead Head, in development stages. They also co-produced Tides in 2017. Open Palm Films were set the remit of producing each film for under £1 million.[1] Dead Head was announced as the second film that Dominic Dromgoole will direct for Open Palm Films. The script is to be adapted by Ché Walker from the 1986 BBC television series of the same name written by Howard Brenton. Open Palm Films currently has two novels by Nell Leyshon: Black Dirt and The Colour of Milk, which are under option for development.[2] A further project is in development stages, with plans for filming to take place in the south of France in July 2018. HistoryIn 2017, Open Palm Films shot their first feature film, Making Noise Quietly, which was adapted by Robert Holman from his play of the same name. The play originally debuted in 1986, and was staged at the Bush Theatre. Dominic Dromgoole later revived the play in 1999 with his theatre company The Oxford Stage Company in the West End. The film stars Deborah Findlay, Trystan Gravelle, Luke Thompson, Barbara Marten, Geoffrey Streatfeild, and Matthew Tennyson who reprised the role of Eric from the 2012 theatre production at the Donmar Warehouse.[3] Following this, Open Palm Films shot Undercliffe, written by Bruce Macleod and directed by Lisa Mulcahy. The film tells the story of a young man who wakes up with severe memory loss and was shot on location in Bradford.[4] Open Palm Films then began filming Pond Life, directed by Bill Buckhurst. 'The script was adapted for the screen by Richard Cameron from his play of the same name.[5] The play also originally debuted at the Bush Theatre in 1992,[6] when Dominic Dromgoole was artistic director. Set in the summer of 1994, it tells the story of a group of friends who set out on a fishing trip to investigate the legend of the giant carp in a Doncaster pond. Benjamin was written and directed by Simon Amstell and stars Colin Morgan, Jack Rowan, Jessica Raine, Anna Chancellor, Joel Fry and Phenix Brossard. It is Simon Amstell's second feature film following the [BBC] mockumentary Carnage. It features original music from key-board player of the Klaxons James Righton. Tides was co-produced by Open Palm Films in collaboration with Elation Pictures. It was written and directed by Tupaq Felber as his feature debut, and premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in 2017.[7]Productions
