Owerre (also known as Owerre Ede) is an autonomous community within the Nsukka Local Government Area (LGA) in Enugu State, Nigeria.

It is one of the newest autonomous community created under the administration of his Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Executive Governor of Enugu state.

This was ratified in October 2018.

Owerre comprises Six (6) sub-communities: Amama, Umu-uka, Umu-Ikaka, Umu-Inyere, Umu-odori and Umu-Nzogba. Each of these sub-communities is made up of villages.The sub-communities are headed by the most eldest man each known as Onyishi in Nsukka culture.

However, Amama is the head (Onyishi) of all the sub communities in Owerre and Ede-enu at large. This is an age long tradition.

The current Onyishi Owerre is Elder, Onyishi James Ude-Oyibo Onah nwa aroke

Amama for instance comprises the following Villages: Akpatulu, Ofulonu, Ndi-ulo etiti, Ndi-ulo, Ishidebe and Akaa-Aju. Currently, the Onyishi, Amama sub-communite is Elder, Onyishi James Ude-Oyibo Onah nwa Aroke.

Owerre community being an autonomous community has its own traditional ruler: HRH Igwe Christopher Odinaka Agu.
