HistoryOULTC was first established in 1879 at Norham Gardens, where they had 12 grass tennis courts, although this was expanded to 17 grass courts in 1893. In May 1879, at the same time as the May Races were taking place, they hosted the first Oxford University Men's Doubles Championships. In 1881, the club began to play annual matches against Cambridge University Lawn Tennis Club (CULTC), which would be held initially at clubs in London such as Prince's or Queens. By 1906, the annual OULTC and CULTC matches would be held alternately at one another's home venues. In 1926, OULTC moved to its site at Iffley Road.[2] Modern DayOULTC remains Oxford University's official tennis club, which is used by both students and university employees.[3] The club has nine teams, of which six compete in the Lawn Tennis Association's BUCS tennis leagues[4]. The club is still based at Iffley Road Sports Complex, and has six grass courts and four hard courts, as well as a clubhouse with toilet and changing facilities.[5] During the Trinity term, OULTC competes in friendly matches against other clubs, which have included The Hurlingham Club, The International Club of England, and The Queen's Club.[6][7]. OULTC also runs several internal competitions: the Club Championship, which is a singles knockout event; Cuppers, which is a doubles knockout event between colleges; and Leagues, which includes several round robin groups, where college teams will compete in singles and doubles matches. In 2016, the Cuppers event was won by St John's College.[8][9][10] VarsitySince 1881, the club has competed in annual Varsity matches against Cambridge University Lawn Tennis Club (CULTC). The matches have been played at a variety of locations, including The All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon, Eastbourne, The Hurlingham Club, The Queen's Club and the National Tennis Centre.[11] Overall Results
