Passat Ltd., headquartered in Toronto Canada, is a manufacturer of diode-pumped solid-state lasers. The company was established in 1995 by Dr. Guerman Pasmanik a Russian physicist, an international expert in nonlinear optics and stimulated Raman[1], and Brillouin Scattering. The company is known for its compact picosecond lasers, especially at higher harmonics of the 1064 nm YAG laser line, with wavelengths down to 213 nm (5-th harmonic of the YAG line). Using a unique pulse compression scheme based on phase conjugation, the company's picosecond lasers are characterized with short ( less than 10 ps) pulses with good beam quality and temporal contrast ratios > 106. The lasers made by Passat Ltd. are used in material processing[2], laser spectroscopy, remote sensing, analytical instrumentation, space and other applications. Among Passat Ltd.'s customers are industrial companies, national laboratories, space agencies and educational institutions from around the world. In 2007, in partnership with Optech, MDA Space Missions and the Canadian Space Agency, Passat provided the laser source for the atmospheric LIDAR instrument on NASA's Phoenix Mars mission. The company was issued a Certificate of Recognition [3] for it's role in the mission. Besides lasers, Passat Ltd. designs and manufactures Faraday rotators and isolators, solid-state Raman frequency converters and other nonlinear optics devices.
