Ottensmeyer (born March 11, 1957) is a railway executive who serves as President and CEO of Kansas City Southern (KCS). BiographyBorn in Vincennes, Indiana, in 1957, Ottensmeyer holds a bachelor of science in finance from Indiana University. Before joining Kansas City Southern in 2006, Ottensmeyer was senior vice president for Bank of America, vice president of finance and treasurer for BNSF Railway Co., and CFO for Intranasal Therapeutics, Inc., a pharmaceutical company.[1] Since arriving at KCS, Ottensmeyer has served as both executive vice president sales and marketing and executive vice president and chief financial officer before moving to the role of president (2015)[2] and chief executive officer (2016)[3]. Ottensmeyer is KCS’ 19th CEO in the company’s 130-year history, succeeding David L. Starling. KCS’s primary operations are in the U.S. with The Kansas City Southern Railway] (KCSR) and in Mexico with Kansas City Southern de México (KCSM). Ottensmeyer is an advocate for diversity and for a strong U.S. business relationship with Mexico.[4][5] In addition to his KCS roles, Ottensmeyer is a board member of the Association of American Railroads and of the Kelley Transportation Executive Board for the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. He is also a member of the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City.
