{{AFC submission|d|reason|This is a COATRACK article that doesn't appear to satisfy GEOLAND as a legally recognized populated place from the available sources. It will be presumptively notable if demonstrated it was once a populated place, but there's relatively little in the article itself about the settlement other than that it was founded by a cult - which may or may not make it notable.|u=NowIsntItTime|ns=118|decliner=SportingFlyer|declinets=20180808114018|ts=20180622170123}} {{AFC comment|1=It isn't obvious to me that the place is notable except as the community of Vissarion. It isn't clear why a separate article is needed for the place, when it is the founder and the cult that are notable.}}{{AFC comment|1=Yeah, I see what you mean. I have changed my mind and would rather submit it as a page on the community instead, and have the links on Vissarion's page redirect to the cult.}}

}}Petropavlovka (also referred to as the Abode of Dawn) is a remote settlement in the southern Kuraginsk district of Siberia, Russia, deep in the Taiga forest.[1] It is home to a mass religious cult movement called "Church of the Last Testament" founded by Sergey Torop, a Russian who claims to be Jesus.[2][3]

History

The settlement was re-formed by a community led by ex-traffic policeman and factory worker Sergey Torop in the early 1990s, around the same time the Soviet Union fell. Torop claims this was due to a divine intervention, and that was the reason he was called to lead his followers when he believed he was Jesus Christ reincarnated.[2]

In the first two years, there were around 50 followers of Vissarion (Torop's nickname given by his 'disciples') living in Minnusinsk. On moving to the area already named Petropavlovka by an orthodox group called the "Old Believers", they hesitated at welcoming them and accused Vissarion of being the anti-christ and his followers "the servants of Satan". They had began to attack them, with one man being burned alive when his house was set on fire. The Orthodox leaders decided to leave due to a perceived vision and left the "Vissarionites" to expand to a settlement of around 4,000.[4][5]

Church of the Last Testament

The religious sect gained fame when people from the outside world began to report on a man who claimed to be Jesus leading a community of thousands. The notable sources include the UK's Channel 4, The Daily Guardian, CNN and Vice who uploaded a documentary based off of the article "Jesus of Siberia" made by Rocco Castoro.[2][3][6][7] Members of Petropavlovka are expected to be followers when arriving in the Abode of Dawn, and demand anyone living there follow Vissarion and his written book called "Vissarion's Last Testament". Included in Torop's words and teachings are four revelations that explain two Gods, one who created the universe and left, another willing to help; Satan being a manifestation of human negative energy; the death of the world for said negativity; and aliens who exist to train Jews in "the mastery of money". He also teaches that survivors of the coming apocalypse of the world will leave their bodies and

colonize new planets as spirit beings.[8]
