Petrus Thomae was a 14th-century Spanish Franciscan philosopher and theologian. LifeVery little is known about Peter's life. He was probably born in Spain at the end of the fourteenth century and entered a Franciscan convent in the province of Santiago de Compostela, Galicia. According to John the Canon, he never became a Master of Theology. In 1314 he was a lector in Barcelona, where he was involved in the investigation of the possible heresy of Arnaldus de Villa Nova. Peter lectured on Peter Lombard's Sentences around 1324, then left Barcelona around 1332. After 1332 he was active at the papal court in Avignon, where he worked as an abbreviator, later as penitentiary for John XXII. In 1336 he was accused of sorcery and imprisoned in Noves, near Avignon. Peter must have died there around 1340.[1] WorksMultiple works by Peter Thomae survive, some of them in critical editions. These are his Liber de divite christiano, Liber de originali innocentia Virgino, Quaestio de distinctione praedicamentorum (which exists in two redactions); Quaestiones de ente; Quaestiones de esse intelligibili; Quaestiones de formis; Quaestiones de modis distinctionum; Quaestiones de unitate minori numerali and his Quodlibet. The first book of Peter's commentary on the Sentences also survived.[2] References1. ^Schabel, C., Smith, G.R. (2012). "The Franciscan Studium in Barcelona in the Early Fourteenth Century," in: K.
