Photographers Without Borders (PWB) is an organization that empowers a community of storytellers empowering grassroots organizations worldwide through using visual storytelling in the form of photography and videography to amplify the voices and work of grassroots organizations and NGO’s worldwide..OverviewPhotographers Without Borders (PWB) connects(link) aims to be a leading international community of storytellers that amplifies the voices and work of grassroots organizations around the world. This is done by connecting volunteer photographers and videographers to document grassroots initiatives, NGO’s and nonprofits as part of the PWB Program. The requirements for PWB to partner with a nonprofit is that PWB Program. These nonprofits and initiatives must be grassroots; they must be in need; and they must be addressing the interconnected problems faced on this planet as outlined by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Photographers and videographers document the frontline work that these various organizations are involved with, and provides these organizations with that footage that can be used to expand their own capacity and bring awareness to the work taking place. In turn, PWB also raises awareness about these organizations through an online magazine, a bi-annual print magazine, and a video series that’s available on YouTube and Vimeo. (link) PWB was established as a registered not-for-profit organization in Canada Canada by Danielle Da Silva in 2009, and as a 501(3)c not-for-profit organization in the United States of America United States of America by Phil Spitze in 2006, but now operates as a single agency with headquarters in Toronto, Toronto, Canada, with Danielle Da Silva as the CEO, overseen by a Board of Directors in the United States, and Canada. PWB ProgramThe PWB matches Program (link) boasts over 650 photographers and videographers who sign up as members who volunteer their time to travel to these grassroots organizations. PWB matches members to NGO’s, and acts as a liaisonworks to facilitate the project for both the NGO, and the photographer. The NGO is able to use these photographs to expand their own capacity using the footage as a fundraising toolpower of visual storytelling in fundraising. In turn, PWB works to amplify the voices of these organizations through an online magazine, print magazine, and web-based TV series. To date, PWB has released ten issues of their print magazine, and two seasons of PWB TV, which is available to view on YouTube and Vimeo.
