Famous in Israel as “the guru of healthy cooking,” celebrated chef, writer, TV personality, and best-selling cookbook author Phyllis Glazer (1953) is one of Israel’s top food personalities. Through her media appearances, cookbooks, regular columns, lively lectures, and cooking classes, Glazer, who introduced the preparation of delicious vegetarian cuisine to the country, helped create a nation-wide consciousness of healthy, organic food. Glazer spent more than a decade as a regular columnist for The Jerusalem Post and various Hebrew publications, and currently writes for Menta, the Israeli health-lifestyle magazine, and WALLA Food, the most popular internet site in Israel. Her food and feature articles have been published by the Associated Press, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Daily News, Bon Appetit, Moment magazine and Saveur, among others, and she has been interviewed on radio and television programs in the United States,Israel, India, Australia and Britain. She is the author of eight cookbooks; seven published in Israel, Germany and Italy, and The Essential Book of Jewish Festival Cooking, published by Harper-Collins in the USA. Her first cookbook was the first ever vegetarian cookbook published in Israel, and Glazer is currently the only Anglo-Saxon writing in Hebrew in Israel. Personal LifeGlazer was born in Brooklyn, New York, and has three older sisters. She studied at the Jewish Yeshiva Flatbush, and went on to study theater and performing arts at Brandeis University. In 1977, Glazer immagrated to Israel, where she met Yoni Peres and the two married. A year later they divorced. |
